Staffer suing DJs Golden Goose Sale sets up harassment hotline

A hotline for past and present David Jones employees who want to discuss inappropriate behaviour at the retailer has been established by the woman suing the company.

Kristy Fraser-Kirk, a former publicist at the retailer, has launched a $37 million lawsuit over alleged sexual misconduct by the company's former chief executive Mark McInnes.

David Jones has also reportedly set up a hotline for employees.

But a spokesman for Ms Fraser-Kirk says past and present employees who feel more comfortable calling Ms Fraser-Kirk's hotline can do so, and their discussions will be in confidence.

The spokesman says callers to the hotline will be asked to leave their details and then will be called back.

He has declined to say whether callers will be asked to join the legal action.

The announcement of the lawsuit came just a day before David Jones launched its new spring/summer fashion collection.

But there was no talk of the drama as local stars assembled this morning in Sydney to see what the 2010/2011 season had to offer.

Brand strategist Richard Sauerman says the case may deter some female customers from shopping at David Jones.

"It's a world where you can really be a woman and be yourself - that's what is projected," he said.

"It seems as if this story seems to contradict that and that sort of shatters the illusion, if you like, that's created.

"So there's a disconnect between the perception of how the brand is and how the brand actually behaves and the culture of the organisation.

"I think that for some people [that] won't sit very well."
